Typofonderie is one of the most influent french foundry, created by the multi-awarded type designer Jean-François Porchez. Throughout 2014, Jean-François had asked few designers to create monthly wallpaper calendars in order to feature some of the Typofonderie catalog typefaces.
I was approached to design the august wallpaper and I've chosen to feature the beautiful Ambroise typeface.
If you didn’t know this typeface, I couldn’t be more precise than his creator itself to describe it:
" Ambroise attempts to reproduce more of what we see printed on paper in the 19th century; a more accurate representation of Didot punches. So, the unbracketed serifs are not truly square straight-line forms but use tiny transitional curves instead. The result on the page appears softer and less straight, particularly in larger sizes. "
